29 April 2010
CGCoPE would like to share a brief Q&A from the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) in relation to Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) and Early Action Metrics (EAM). Non Energy Managers may find this document fairly technical, however the most important point is this:
- The installation of AMR meters allows you to accurately measure consumption, and therefore avoid penalties which will be applied to your consumption levels for using estimated consumption. CGCoPE therefore recommend that central government organisations review and install automatic meters for both gas and electricity, in order to maximise the benefit and minimise any future penalties for not doing so. Maximum benefit will be achieved when AMR meters are installed voluntarily prior to 1 April 2010. As this date has now passed the sooner central government organisations install AMR meters the better.
